Thousand words speak louder than an image

 

When it comes to define space, there are some features that can be taken into consideration to relate it with the ambiguity of its uses, functions, interpretations, and dimensionality and lastly to whatever it does belong; but none of those terms are close enough to the first inquiry that pops out when associations for space are thought.

Bringing to the front the last one – belong –there lies a differentiation between public or private space that common citizens or everyday people make. ¿ Can I enter? ¿can I walk through? ¿is it an open place? At first instance this might address doubts such as:  ¿Are those questions meant to produce an environment where I divide my own experience of space out there? ¿Do we create space by naming it and also a limitation of using it by bringing forward the counter paradigm of public or private restraint?

Modern architecture here has played a very important role by pulling off the idea of place (layers of structures, spaces, skins, memories, thresholds) and turning it onto conflicts and possibilities of standing inside or outside, that way of participation in society where non-places are public spaces without consent defy what a human environment develops on social trusting by being presents.

To favor inhabitants-consumers on further and continues development of interactions with politics, economies and employment, it is replied a model that encouraged by demography boost people to pursue housing, work, education and recreation. The positioning of strategies to use urban environments as a whole and not as a part of pieces is recurrent and that provokes lack of interaction among multiplicity of spaces. Simultaneity is being widely over prized and the experience of expanding the limits settled down in shapes of urban policies.

As a contemporary society we did manage to put together a long transversal boundary among bodies, spaces, and places, all of those three as common understandings of the human kind civilizations, glocal (global and local)  epiphanies and nature histories.  It doesn’t imply they are being tied up by perception and reality but speculation which is driven by small rates and private wills.

In these days – XXI century - We tend to produce concepts of public domain definitions by highlighting the singularities of our era, nonexistent issues by mixing comparisons with similarities, and differences with particularities. That is to say that a common space reveals here as a comprehension tool for developing massive contents without traits, gestures or expressions. Fully combining under construction knowledge with collaborative information expressed worldwide and granted likely veracious.

Though the discernment comes along with the simplicity of oral tradition and oral lore. The expression of the communities allows a nearness among people that making part of a culture or a society, represents and transmits values that are historical yet present. If words and knowledge create links and proximity through language, then space, certainly is developed through expressions of gestures, traits and movements. Language constructs the idea of a universe and expands the roots and branches of symbolism. Images are the result of communicational processes that through spatiality develops languages and advanced systems of dialogues.                       There was a predictable breakdown known as the year 2000 problem – Y2K - that happened to be when xx century shifted from 1999 to 2000. It opened a series of metaphors, one of those indeed may be stated as a failure of the system.              

 

The Year 2000 problem was a problem for both digital (computer-related) and non-digital documentation and data storage situations which resulted from the practice of abbreviating a four-digit year to two digits. This made year 2000 indistinguishable from 1900. The former assumption that a twentieth-century date was always understood caused various errors concerning, in particular, the display of dates and the automated ordering of dated records or real-time events.

 

Among other meanings, almost all programmers were aware of the upcoming failure, but in order to sort it out, all the systems needed to be rewritten. The outcome of it, brings one powerful feeling of having another perception of time and space under control in contemporary world. Through devices we designed for our needs, and for the good, we created an array of languages that explores communications and also gives the capabilities of creation. But failure is always a real possibility and also a stake we make part of.

However languages and writing, seems to be, just at the beginning of their era.           

From social networking,  public posts, the recovering and scanning of antique documents, archiving unknown texts and non-storable digital knowledge, reconstructing hieroglyphs by using computer languages, to the compilations of thousands and millions of images, diagrams, structural graphics, names, titles, etc. just to list some.

 ¿How do we create such a resourceful world? 

The humanity is always producing knowledge, creating structures to interact one another, recreating new worlds with new expectations and also new searches for the past.  Going even farther and deeper in the universe, protesting on the streets to demand public space for different uses and variety of needs as new leaders. Everything that is produced currently has gotten a way of documenting itself. Everything that was used in the past has gotten nowadays a way to be archived and reused. Information is not always appreciated nor valued as a process but as a mean.

 

Never-ending resources are finding their way to articulate with their own context but also with unclear relations that are about to get visibility. However the huge amount of information also creates a false necessity of it. As if it were going to fade out by not being used for any purpose.  

 


At the end, a binary system, which is numerical and digital, produces what we most feared, a sample of what humanity tries to achieve through time passing by. A way to store everything and feeling that we are not going to forget how to remember it. An amount of digital information – 1010101010 - that always would need a reader language to be deciphered and a program to translate it into images no matter if they are characters or pixels; either In the front of the screen or paging the novel book there is a longing for communication implied and about to be expressed by oral lore, writing, shouting, painting graffitists or just winkling intermittently S.O.S. 


By the way – btw – using less characters creates more images.
